Meet Ms. Sheets
Ms. Sheets
This is my second year at Huron Academy. I began here as a Paraprofessional, and as such I've had the pleasure of working closely with the resource team. This year I am finishing my schooling at Baker College of Clinton Township.
I am currently Student Teaching in Mrs. Stewart's 4th grade class. I'll be taking over the classroom one subject at a time. I am very excited about this experience and I look forward to an engaging year!
My Educational Philosophy
Teaching is the art of successfully educating students with the knowledge needed to be successful in today’s ever-growing world. Through the use of various teaching techniques, children will partake in a fun, enriching environment. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that "we teach by what we do and not what we say". I also believe that all children can learn, although, at different paces. This is a life long task, for knowledge is great, and the need to learn will follow students throughout the course of their education. Learning will be achieved in many different ways. This is to ensure that learning is not only fun, but also to ensure a greater impact, and everlasting memory upon the learner.
In order to ensure that each and every student is grasping the information introduced, many different teaching techniques will be brought forth. It is commonly believed that most people favor some particular method of interacting with, taking in, and processing information.
Experts have identified three basic learning styles:
- Auditory learners are those who remember best through the use of oral instruction.
- Visual learners easily remember visual details and prefer to see what they are learning. They prefer to write down instructions and may have trouble following lectures.
- Kinesthetic or tactile learners prefer activities that allow them to experience and touch the material at hand.
With the use of the various learning techniques, I as the teacher will also implement a broad use of available materials in which to teach. Through the use of available multimedia, current events, and teaching across the curriculum, children will delve into critical thinking and be able to understand the material at hand. In addition, effective classroom management will be incorporated. This is to ensure students have the best possible atmosphere in which to work. I believe that the most significant and rich learning experiences come from cooperative discovery and challenging subject matter. I see students as capable of much, much more than memorization and repetition. I see the role of the teacher as guide. I believe that if we treat the school as a community we will create lifelong learners, cooperative workers, competent teachers, and critical thinkers willing to adapt to a changing world for the betterment of the larger community.
